Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day around the world and just like every other year I’m super excited. It doesn’t matter if I’m single, dating or engaged; I’m a romantic type of girl who’s in love with celebrating Valentine’s Day. Every day is pretty much Valentine’s Day with H but I don’t want to get all mushy and make my readers sick. ;)
Whenever I’m single I still make the most out of V-day by spending the day with my friends and family. You don’t have to be in a relationship to celebrate the people you love. Why be depressed when you can treat yourself or loved ones to a thoughtful handmade gift, box of chocolate, flowers, dinner out, spa day, cocktails with your closest girlfriends or a romantic movie night with piggy snacks. Being single is really fantastic when you have the right attitude and look at your future with unlimited possibilities. I don’t feel sorry for my single girlfriends but rather celebrate them and our friendship. I like to buy little gifts to let them know how much joy they bring to my life.
The only people I truly feel sorry for on Valentine’s Day are my Western friends and co-workers who are married or have boyfriends that do absolutely nothing for them. No matter what your budget is there is no excuse for not treating the person you love a little special on this day that happens only once a year. When a man doesn’t do anything it shows that they are taking their partner for granted. I could never stick around with a man who didn’t want to show how much he loved and appreciated me. He’d probably wake up with a knife in his back and a two word note (F U!) the next day…;p
Kuwait is a Muslim country where the majority of inhabitants are non-Kuwaiti. That’s right; we expats outnumber the locals by a significant number. Due to this fact you can always spot signs of our upcoming Western holidays. The local Kuwaiti florists, chocolate shops, jewelry boutiques and bakeries are buzzing with Valentine’s Day flare. The color of red and little hearts are everywhere. Many local restaurants are having a Valentine's Day themed dinner with live music. There is definitely romance in the K-Town air...

Not everyone in Kuwait is pro Valentine's Day:
Call For Ban on Valentine’s Day in Kuwait
Arab Times [Link], February 12, 2013: Head of Da’wa and Islamic Sharia Orientation Unit in the Social Reforms Society Dr Essa Al-Zafiri has advised the public to be aware of the dangerous repercussions of adopting non-Muslim practices and celebrations, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Al-Zafiri also condemned the media hype on such celebrations by inciting people to exchange gifts or SMS on Valentine’s Day — a practice that originated from Rome. He attributed the spread of such practices in Muslim communities to the alleged loss of the Islamic identity amongst some of them. He said celebrating occasions which are not part of Islam is considered an imitation of the West.
He also appealed to the media to refrain from misleading the people, pointing out that the concerned authorities must take serious measures to ban celebrations which are not part of Kuwaiti traditions and customs.

Not a fan of VDay. the overly commercial and in your face red eruption is just too much for my taste. but i disagree with what you said above that if a man doesnt do anything for their gf on vday, then that means they are taking them for granted. so if he doesnt do anything throughout the remainder of the year and only does on V Day then hes good? hehehe ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat isn't overly commercial in today's world? It's 99% reaction and our attitude that determines how we look at things. I'm pretty sure that if a guy or girl is good to their significant other on V-Day then they are also good year around. Nowhere in the post did I say a person has to be good to others on one day. Hehe :p
DeleteINSTEATED OF THINKING RELIGIOUSLY FOR ALL THESE THINGS DO SOMTHING BETTER IN LIFE PPL , THE MORE ATTENSION THESE CELEBRATIONS WILL GET THE MORE PEOPLE START ADOPTING IT FOR THE SAKE FOR BREAKING RULES , SO POLITICALLY AND RELIGIOUSLY PAY ATTENSION ON OTHER BETTER THINGS FOR HUMANITY PPL............!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf everyone would just work on improving themselves then the world would truly be a better place. Most people just want to criticize others to draw attention away from their faults and shortcomings.
DeleteI, for one, celebrated being single. Went out with a friend to dinner and dancing and met more friends. Oh, I forgot how I love to dance. It was a great night and with the right company can be so much fun. Of course, I made it special for my family. My kids, my life, they always comes first. And they know it, they're my priority. They too want me to have fun, so I did.
ReplyDeleteV-day is for everyone who wants to be loved, who knows how to love, who is loved. No fanfare necessary, a simple appreciation of life and love goes a long way.
I haven't met you, only know you through your blogs and I can tell its not the gifts that H showers you with that you truly love, it's the way he makes you feel love. The little things that he does for you that you truly appreciate and have you falling in love for him. As always, I wish you both the best :-).
Thank you sweetheart! You're such a doll. ❤
